George Weah crowned president in Monrovia before official announcement

Liberia’s George Weah was being hailed as president before official run-off election results were announced on Thursday (December 28).

The National Elections Commission (NEC) is due to announce provisional results late on Thursday and began tallying votes from the December 26 presidential election on Wednesday (December 27).

The New Republic newspaper reported that Weah of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has received congratulatory messages from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Twitter.

Eyewitness News (EWN) and The Analyst newspaper also ran stories stating various footballers and the South African President Jacob Zuma had come forward to applaud Weah’s unofficial victory.

The election commission urged people to wait for official counts.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he just bought me lunch since I found it for him smile Thus let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch!
